Loudoun gets enough freeze-thaw to break a lazy caulk joint. The house moves. The window frame moves differently. A bead that was smeared over dirt in 2019 is now a gray ribbon you can pull out with your fingers. Air comes in. So does the sound of Route 7.
Interior stool versus exterior perimeter
Those are two jobs. Interior paint-grade beads at the stool and apron are comfort and dust control. Exterior beads at the brickmold or vinyl flange are water management. Mixing them into one sloppy color-matched smear is how water finds the sheathing. We cut out the dead product, clean, and pick a sealant that matches the joint — paintable on the inside, weather-capable on the outside.
Temperature is not a suggestion on the tube
Most of the products we trust want the surface above the mid-40s and dry. Western Loudoun hits that wall earlier than a townhome in Brambleton. If you call in January because a window whistled on a 15-degree night, we can still do interior weatherstrip and door sweeps. We will not lay an exterior bead on a frozen, wet sill and promise you a year.

If you can see daylight around a door slab, start with doors and locks plus weatherization. If the issue is a cracked bead at the tub or a window that dusts the sill every week, start with caulking and weatherization.
